AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 60 Palestinians in the last 24 hours, according to medical sources, further worsening the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In Gaza City, several attacks resulted in casualties. Three medics lost their lives, while an airstrike on the Shujayea neighborhood killed two Palestinians and wounded several others. Near Nabulsi junction, an Israeli strike hit an area close to al-Shifa Hospital, causing more injuries. Shelling in the as-Saftawi area also led to additional deaths.
In southern Gaza, 13 people seeking humanitarian aid were killed near an Israel- and US-backed aid distribution site in Rafah’s Shakoush and al-Alam areas. A separate airstrike in the region claimed three more lives.
Since the beginning of the war, an estimated 54,927 Palestinians have been killed, most of them women, children, and elderly individuals. Health officials believe the actual toll is even higher.
On Monday, journalist Moamen Mohammed Abu Al-Auf was killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza City. The Government Media Office in Gaza stated that Abu Al-Auf worked as a photojournalist for multiple media outlets. His death brings the number of journalists killed in Gaza since the war began to 227.
The media office condemned what it called the deliberate targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists by Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned of deteriorating conditions for thousands of displaced families in Gaza, who remain cut off from humanitarian assistance.
For over three months, Israeli authorities have prevented the safe and sufficient delivery of aid to Gaza. UNRWA stressed, “We are not asking for the impossible. Allow us to do our work: assist people in need and preserve their dignity.”
Israel has banned UNRWA and other international aid organizations from operating in Gaza, halting critical supplies of food, water, and medical aid. The Israel- and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation continues operations, but concerns remain over the politicization of aid distribution.
Hamas has issued warnings against Israeli interference with the Madleen aid ship, holding Israel responsible for ensuring the safety of activists onboard.
UN agencies and humanitarian organizations caution that Gaza is on the brink of famine due to restricted aid access. Israeli-imposed limitations, looting, and lawlessness have made delivering assistance to Gaza’s 2 million residents nearly impossible.
UNRWA reported in April that no aid has entered Gaza since Israel implemented a complete ban on deliveries on March 2. The agency warned that the ongoing lack of food, clean water, shelter, and medical care threatens the survival of nearly 2 million displaced Palestinians.
